Hope and Poverty is an art exhibition with a difference. Over 30 artists including aspiring artists and well known and well-loved artists such as Chinwe Roy (whose portrait of the Queen brought her wide acclaim in 2002), Karen Wallis, Paul McIntyre, Carol Peace, Gillian Flack and Ben Hughes have submitted art work based on the theme Hope and Poverty. This extraordinary mix of style, medium and content culminates in a thought provoking, inspirational (and even at times shocking) collection for viewers to enjoy.
Work by 15 year old award winning photographer, Eleanor Bennett, will be exhibited alongside winning artwork from school children who have competed in Mercy in Action’s art competition. This highlights the differing perspectives of Hope and Poverty from children and allows the work of the next generation’s upcoming artists and world changers to be displayed.
The exhibition will kick off with a preview evening on Tuesday 14th Feb at 6pm and will be followed by daily art and craft workshops for children and a ‘meet the artist’ event on the Thursday before going out with a bang on the Saturday with ‘The Weekend Project’ - a workshop for aspiring photographers and models courtesy of CRev studios. We will also be drawing our exciting raffle where one lucky winner will take home an original oil painting by Paul McIntyre, valued at £900.
The exhibition embodies its own theme as profits arising from the event will be donated to the Bath-based charity Mercy in Action (www.mercyinaction.org.uk) whose work with street children and families living in extreme poverty in the Philippines has brought hope and freedom from poverty to many lives. In particular the proceeds from this event will be going towards our work with street children in Cebu, The Philippines. |
