BANES Volunteering Scheme - Do you or your church need volunteers?

BANES Community Projects Officer for Keynsham and the Chew Valley, is appealing for more volunteers!  In line with the Government's new 'Big Society' initiative - which encourages us to think in terms of all sharing one society - Sara Dixon is aiming to match up suitable volunteers with suitable projects!

The BANES official volunteering scheme aims to enable people who have been long-term unemployed with opportunities to gain new skills, whilst seeing community needs met.

Previous volunteering opportunities have included

  • Painting children’s play areas in Bath
  • Weeding, planting and general assistance at Chew Magna Community Farm; First Steps Children's Centre in Twerton, St Chad's Well and Somerset & Dorset Railway in Midsomer Norton
  • Painting at Hillside Community Hall in Bath and Leonard Cheshire Disability Residential Home in Timsbury
  • Helping with supported riding for the disabled adults and children at Wellow Trekking Centre
  • Reading to children at Bath Library
  • General clearance at Manor Road Community Woodland, Keynsham

BANES' service also includes an annual Community Awards scheme, which gives acknowledgement and thanks to volunteers in the area.
