Bristol's Conference to End Global Poverty In Our Lifetime!

'Global_Aware_Conference_jpegToday 1,600 babies will be born with HIV, 300 million Africans will drink dirty water, millions won't have enough food as a changing climate has devastated their harvest and poor countries will miss out on £1.3 billion through unfair trade rules.' says international Christian charity TearfundBCAN, Christian Aid, we:network, Diocese of Bristol and World Mission Services are amongst organisations joining Tearfund on 22nd January 2011 for a Global Awareness Conference in Bristol.
Aimed at inspiring and equiping Christians to 'take action to eradicate extreme poverty in our lifetime' is taking place at Broadmead Baptist Church.

The main speakers include:  Dr David Golding the Honorary Chaplain at Newcastle University, who is the Development Coordinator of Make Poverty History North East, a founder member of Jubilee Debt Campaign, a voluntary spokesperson for Tearfund, a supporter of WDM (World Development Movement) and Speak.

Dr Paula Clifford, who has worked for Christian Aid for 12 years and is Head of Theology in their head office.  She is an Anglican Lay Reader in the Oxford Diocese and travels extensively speaking on development issues.  She has recently authored 'Angels with Trumpets: the church in a time of global warming'. angels_with_trumpets_jpeg

Steve Webb is the Liberal Democrat MP for Thornbury and Yate and the Minister of State for Pensions. He previously shadowed Ed Miliband in the Dept for Energy and Climate Change.  He is also a member of the cross-party Christians in Parliament and vice-president of the Liberal Democrat Christian Forum.

Tigist Grieve is a PhD Researcher in International Development at the University of Bath. She also serves as a volunteer programme manager for the charity For Ethiopia based in Bristol, which she co-founded in 2004 to provide practical aid projects in Western Ethiopia. She is a member of Woodlands Church, Bristol

There will be films, stalls and lots of opportunities to talk to others with a passion to eradicate poverty.
