So its that time of year again!...When you need to beg for shoeboxes and hunt for ideas to fill them with for children who otherwise would see little, if any, joy at Christmas. But what do you go for? practical items like flannels and toothbrushes? Sweets which will travel? Fun toys? Or one big item?...

Trying to stuff a giant teddy into a shoebox was never going to work! So thank goodness for the Operation Christmas Child team's suggestions:
One item from each of the following categories are suggested for the ideal shoebox:
Toys: Bear, soft toy, tennis ball, finger puppet, jigsaw, yo-yo, building blocks, small musical instrument.
For boys; trucks and cars,
For girls; dolls, clip on earrings, etc.
Educational Supplies: Felt pens, pens, pencils, pencil sharpener, eraser, colouring book, notepad, picture or puzzle book, chalk, pencil case, stickers, etc.
Hygiene Items: Toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, comb, hair clips, bar of soap, flannel, etc.
Other Items: Sweets (sell-by date to be at least March of the following year), gloves, scarf, sunglasses, cap, hat, bangles, necklaces.
