Operation Christmas Child Launches 2010 Campaign

operation_christmas_child_logoNEWSIZEHave you had the joy of grabbing an old shoe box, covering it with Christmas wrapping, and filling it with toys? If so you've taken part in Operation Christmas Child, a Samaritan's Purse initiative.  This international charity which distributes shoeboxes of Christmas presents to children in deprived countries - who otherwise would not experience the meaning of Christmas - is launching its 2010 campaign at St Michael's Church, Broad Street on September 11th.

Shoppers in Bath are invited to drop in to St Michael's from 10am and experience the fun and joy of being part of the world's largest Christmas project this year!  Upon entry, there will be leaflets, empty shoeboxes and a host of ideas on how to fill it with some lovely presents.

Bath District Coordinator, David Dawson (who runs the project locally with his wife Pat) said gifts do not need to be expensive: "Come and see all the ideas in our shoebox displays to help you enjoy making your shoebox special. We have easy knitting patterns for puppets, sleeping bags for teddies and hats and mittens. Join the Shoebox Fun Day Knitting Circle and knit a finger puppet! We have fabulous fabric cut and ready to sew for exciting gifts, plus fun activities for children."

Operation Christmas Child has been devoted to bringing joy into the lives of children in the most disadvantaged situations since 1990. Gift-filled shoeboxes from the UK go as far as Central Asia and Africa. We hope you will enjoy Shoebox Fun Day and be inspired by seeing the latest DVD, to give Christmas away this year, reminding a child in need that God loves them and they have not been forgotten.
