Unchosen Gets Comic Relief's Stamp Of Approval!

unchosenjpegUnchosen, the charity behind the fantastic South West Film Festival approaching its finale in Bath tonight - to raise awareness of and combat human trafficking is celebrating receiving Comic Relief funding.  Founder Trish Davidson is thrilled with this development.

"God is good!  We have landed Comic Relief and it is a relief as it means we can comic_relief_tv.jpegnow get on with the job in hand and not worry about money any more.

"We got through five panels and three of us were interviewed here in our Bath office for two hours about our policy documents, review process, equal opportunity, board of directors etc etc."

Comic Relief  felt our initiative was unique, they liked it  and they knew it would work as they are in the media so we didnt have to explain to them, as we have to others why we use film, we just needed to show that we monitered the outcomes. As we have always reviewed and taken note each time of what we do well and what we can improve on this was not a problem....Can not tell you how excited we all are." she said.

Unchosen's South West Film Festival kicked off in Bath at the Forum with 'Ghosts' by Honorary Unchosen President, Director Nick Broomfield at which he gave a talk on 20th October.  The musical 'Cargo' by Paul Field was shown on 27th October and the festival culminates in the city with Ananya Chatterjee's documentary 'Understanding Trafficking'.  Ananya is flying in from Calcutta to talk and give a 'Q & A' session after the film.

Following Anti-Slavery Day on 18th October, Unchosen's News page arguably showed the need to combat human trafficking, it reported Delhi's child trafficking cases increasing 'significantly in the months leading up to the Commonwealth Games'...

'Over 121 girls have been rescued from traffickers from railway stations in the past two months....Most children are brough in through fradulent domestic work agencies and then sold for sex in rented properties in well-off areas of the city.'

Unchosen also supports 38 Degrees a volunteer group working with Anti-Slavery International, The Independent On Sunday and ECPAT UK campaign to get our Government to join the European Union's new rules to prevent human trafficking in the EU.  Click to sign its online petition.

Comic Relief will take place on 18th March 2011, and celebrities including Davina McColl, David Tennant, Graham Norton and Jonathan Ross have already lent their support.  In fact an intriguing picture of James Corden and David Beckham is already on the site.
