Operation Christmas Child 2011 Launches Soon!! There's A Distinctly Sporty Air!..
Okay so the shops are only making their first tentative moves towards Christmas! (A few cards, and some 2012 diaries!)...Nevertheless, Bath's branch of Operation Christmas Child plans to inspire you with ideas on how to fill your shoebox with Christmas gifts in a couple of weeks! And this year the forthcoming Olympics and More Than Gold are casting their shadow on the national appeal! Find out how you can be involved!
In connection with the 2012 Olympics - the appeal's website suggests packing a tennis ball, skipping rope and Olympics stickers! You could always decorate your box with stickers, Olympics related drawings, or wrapping paper. There is also a special sport's themed initiative for collecting shoeboxes in churches, offices or 
schools this year!.. As More Than Gold are encouraging sport's themed shoebox collection events!
'Operation Christmas child ensures that children who would not otherwise have even one Christmas present, receive the joy of unwrapping a shoebox of presents on Christmas day.' writes David Dawson of Operation Christmas Child in Bath of the city's launch at St Michael's Church in Broad Street on 24 September from 10am to 2pm.
There you will receive some fantastic practical ideas for filling your shoebox.
The appeal's site asks for: 'Bear, soft toy, tennis ball, finger puppet, jigsaw, yo-yo, building blocks, small musical instrument. Trucks and cars for boys, dolls, clip on earrings etcd for girls and educational supplies of; Felt pens, pens, pencils, pencil sharpener, eraser, colouring book, notepad, picture or puzzle book, chalk, pencil case, stickers, etc.
For hygiene; 'Toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, comb, hair clips, bar of soap, flannel, etc.' And other items; 'Sweets (sell-by date to be at least March of the following year), gloves, scarf, sunglasses, cap, hat, bangles, necklaces etc.'
