Half Term Is Here - Find Out What WSM Are Doing! And Their Autumn Plans!
So the brrrr factor has definitely kicked in.... But that doesn't stop those brave individuals at World Sports Ministries from getting out onto a sports' field near you!.. But what do WSM have planned for this autumn? And will football be the most popular sport this autumn/winter?!..

Are you at WSM looking forward to the autumn/winter? Is it a time when people wain off from sports activities?
Yep we're definitely looking forward to the autumn/winter. Far from waning off from sports activities, people are raring to go after the summer break. The national football and rugby seasons have begun - lots of early morning breakfasts to catch 
the games being screened from New Zealand, c'mon England!
You have an exciting sports programme for autumn!.. Are you excited by your autumn programme of events and sports?
Yes we are excited by our autumn programme. With the nights during in, a session of indoor sport followed by social time down the pub is a great way to spend the evening! Kick Off Football has been running the longest and it's great to have new teams along.
Our Netball Night started before the summer and has now become mixed so we're looking forward to a fab Netball programme ahead with the ladies and gents! Kick Off Teens is our Football tournament for 13-15 year olds. We're hoping that many churches will bring teams along from their youth groups - it's fantastic to see teens interacting with each other from across the city and bringing their mates along to hear about Jesus.
The biggest project I'm planning right now is our half term GET Sported camp - multi sport days for 5-12 year olds. We welcomed 215 children over the summer and worked with a team of brilliant volunteers; it was an amazing time and we're now eagerly looking ahead to October!
Also during this half term we're running a development day for our 'Young Leaders', the teenagers who assist us on GET Sported. It's been a real privilege to build relationships with these young people over this year and we've got a fab day lined up for them to explore deeper their 'character, faith, skills and mission'!
What are the most popular sports?
Kick Off Football is very popular and always a highly contested tournament. Touch Rugby ran during the summer term and was a great outdoor event - we're already looking forward to having it back next summer!
What would you say to anyone who hasn't joined in with WSM before?
Come along!!. Our sports evenings are very relaxed and fun, we welcome all abilities and experience and it's just about building community, enjoying time together and encouraging each other in the things of God - with a ball or two flying around! Our heart is to create unintimidating events which Christians will feel excited about bringing their non-churched friends to so they can discover more
about God through a player's testimony and relationships.
For any believers out there who are stirred by the opportunity to combine their passion for Jesus with their interest in sport, we'd like to meet you! Come to one of our fortnightly meetings to hang out with the WSM team as we pray and plan events which will reach the communities in our city, and find out more about sports ministry.
Do you expect it to be a busy time?
Yes it will be with an evening event running three out of four weeks and the preparation for GET Sported. Plus the Rugby World Cup screenings! The autumn/winter is also our focused development window as we look to meet with church leaders to establish partnerships with more of Bath's churches and ministries.
With the biggest sporting event in the world coming to London next year (The Olympic and Paralympic Games!) we're busy to ensure that both WSM and the churches of Bath are ready and raring to go in making the most of the outreach opportunities presented by the Games in 2012.
