Originally from Bulgaria, Silvia describes herself as a 'traditional icon painter', who met her husband Simon, during a two month commission for Downside School 10 years ago!...
Formally Downside's resident artist, her works from that time include a stunning
icon of St Benedict. She painted an icon of St Mellitus for the Bishop of London in 2004 and has a much celebrated career.
She is quoted as saying: "Icons are not supposed to be signed because the artist is expected to be just the medium who brings down a message.”
She describes the stunning colours used in icons as a code established for a time when less people could read - and the colours helped differentiate the saints or subjects of the art.
Silvia please tell us about yourself?
I am an Icon painter married to Simon Potter, a teacher, and we have a three year old - opinionated daughter called Zaza! We live and work from Milsom Place in the centre of Bath.

A triptych, just completed, for a church in Wales titled 'Our lady of Humility', a triptych, in progress for Tewkesbury Abbey titled 'Christus Rex' and other works from our own collection.
