Volunteering - A Great New Year's Resolution Says Oxfam
Christmas presents are so last year... but it's not too late to make your New Year's Resolution, and or give something to one of the international appeals currently running. Oxfam suggests volunteering in one of its 700 shops nationwide. But of course its online shop's sale is in full swing. However Christian Aid, Tearfund and the Salvation Army are all running international appeals which are well worth supporting.

Christian Aid has a number of appeals which you can donate to including; the Philippines Typhoon, the East Africa Food Crisis, and the Haiti Earthquake Appeal rebuild.
Oxfam's emergency appeals include; the East Africa Food Crisis (as above) - this crisis has been caused by drought and 13 million people are now facing chronic food shortages, starvation and suffering. The Pakistan Floods - Oxfam report 'More than 5 million people affected by severe flooding in Sindh province are at risk of disease and widespread malnutrition, while lack of funds threatens relief efforts for those most in need.' The West Africa Food Crisis - 'Early reports suggest six million people in Niger and 2.9 million people in Mali will be vulnerable to the coming crisis, while in Mauritania 700,000 people – over a quarter of the population - are reported to be at risk. In Burkina Faso, official estimates to be released soon are likely to include over two million people at risk. In Chad, 13 out of 22 regions could be affected by food insecurity.
"The situation is looking extremely worrying for millions of people in West Africa, but the worst is not yet inevitable. The crisis has been identified early, and we know that there are cost-effective measures that can be taken now to protect those most vulnerable. This time we can act before the emergency hits." says Mamadou Biteye, Oxfam Humanitarian Lead in West Africa.
Finally The Philippine Floods (as with Christian Aid above) which have had the result of denying drinking water to thousands of people.
Tearfund have teams working in Haiti, South Sudan, Darfur, Afghanistan and Democratic Republic of Congo providing disaster relief, as well as practical daily projects worldwide.
And The Salvation Army have a number of areas including working with the homeless, addiction, and anti-human trafficking which your donations could support.
