Please tell us about Prayer For Schools?

Pray for schools is facilitated by Bath Youth for Christ in partnership with 2by2. The initiative aims to make every school in Bath a prayed for school. This is because we believe that prayer really does make a difference. To see this aim become a reality, prayer events are held throughout the year and a newsletter is published regularly to keep you up to date with the needs of each school.bathyfc.jpeg

How did this initiative come about?

Pray for Schools is a national initiative - it’s the vision is to mobilize Christians to support their school communities through prayer. In Bath the meeting came about through 2by2, a local organization working in primary Schools, establishing the meeting to bring people together to support local Schools in prayer

What are the aims of Prayer For Schools - and how often do you issue a newsletter?

The aims of pray for Schools are:

* To encourage Christians to enjoy their responsibility to pray for all schools in Bath

* To encourage links between local schools, local churches and other agencies

* To develop a communication network for those working in local Schools

* To raise awareness of the needs of local Schools

* To increase the awareness of Christian input into schools

We issue three newsletters annually these are released following each meeting and are available via email and also on Bath Youth for Christ’s website.

Who is invited to participate? Does it involve people getting together and meeting?

All are welcome so if you are a teacher, parent, governor, youth worker or someone wanting to pray for your local school please have a look at the upcoming events and join us. We meet together three times a year.

Why is it so important for us to pray for Bath's children? and Schools?

The pray for Schools initiative stands on the shoulders of people who have been persistently praying for their local Schools. We know of a small group of people in Bath who have been praying for an increased Christian presence in Schools for the past thirty years.

In 2012 there are now various churches and faith based charities working in all of the state run Schools in the city and also a number of primary Schools. This Christian presence is important because these organisations work with young people who desperately need hope. We therefore understand that prayer makes a difference, and though we may not see the fruit of what we are praying for this year or the next we have faith that what we are praying for now will make a difference in the years to come.

Do you think there are particular challenges for schools and kids today?

There have always been challenges for young people, Schools and the staff that work in them and with them. I guess change brings about new challenges particularly for those working with reduced budgets, resources and manpower. However as a partner of the national Pray for Schools initiative so rightly puts

it ‘Prayer works and although most of these people may never know that they are being prayed for I believe that God can and does make a difference’.
