The Olympics Legacy.. What's Happening In Your Church or Project?
So Samantha Murray took the final medal at the Olympics, gaining silver for the pentathalon.. helping to make up the grand total of 65.. yes 65 medals gained by Team GB!... The question arises now.. what are we going to do instead of watch the best of the best running, jumping, rowing, swimming and performing in ways we wish we could? Well what about a brand new project for children, families, adults or young people as part of the Olympics' legacy in your church or project? The Government's Department for Culture, Media and Sport have released their plans (PDF) ..

The plans make interesting reading.. laying out the Government's committment to bring back a culture of competitive sports in schools, an increase of funds for schools enabling them to release PE teachers to organise competitive sports, embed good practice and train primary teachers. There is also mention of the Department of Health funding more Change4Life sports clubs in communities, so the promotion of sports, healthy competitiveness and better health seems to be the first legacy of the Olympics!
But with all this Olympics Fever very much still in the air! Isn't this the perfect time for youth groups, churches and projects to create projects with a sporty or post Olympics theme?
