Bath Abbey Heralds Rings In The Paralympics This Saturday! And a Fun Weekend In The City!...
The city of Bath awoke to the sound of the Abbey church
bells on 25 August, as the Abbey’s bell ringers joined in the Bath and North East Somerset Council’s Paralympic Flame Celebration at the Recreation Ground later that day. Led by Will Willans, the Abbey’s Tower Master, the bells rung for half an hour from 8.00am-8.30am. Bath is one of only 34 cities nationwide, to host a celebration ahead of the Paralympic Games in London. The aim is to 'usher in the morn with the ringing of bells'.

Will Willans, Bath Abbey’s Tower Master, explains: “We wanted to join in the city’s Paralympic Flame Celebration, and to show our support, on behalf of the Abbe
y and the city as a whole, for the British Paralympic team, who have been based at the University of Bath. This is our way of making sure that they head off to London for the Paralympics knowing how proud we are and that our thoughts and prayers are with them. They are an inspiration to us all."
