Ring Out The Wild Bells.. Three Christians Talk About The All Bells Project

parliament-square_london_2As the Paralympics are less than eight days away, three Christians from the Bath area tell us about joining in with the All Bells Project, at Parliament Square.  They travelled to London to be one of the thousands of people nationally taking part in the project created by Turner Prize winning artist and musician, Martin Creed to mark the start of the Olympics by ringing any bell as fast as possible for three minutes, from 8.12am on 27 July. In their own words they tell us about their day!!!  Helen Hughesdon, Fiona Goater and Giles Lascelle tell us in their own words!  Footage of bells ringing across the UK!

And Here's how the BBC saw it

Giles says:

A truly incredible morning as we rang bells in Parliament Square. Three of us went up from Bath, believing that joining in with the All The Bells project at the Houses of Parliament would be a prophetic act, that would shift the spiritual atmosphere over olympic_opening_night_fireworksthe Government of our nation.

When we arrived at 7:40am, we met with another friend, but other than that there was hardly anyone there. We were quite resigned to the fact that we might well be the only people ringing bells that morning. Just then though, a young couple came up to us and asked "Are you here as a prophetic act?" We replied that we were, and asked how they had known - "We just did. God showed us."

As the clock on Big Ben moved towards 8:00am, the square began to fill with people. More and more began pouring in. By 8:10 there must have been 400-500 people in Parliament Square, about 300 lined up along some steps across the road and another 200 or so on the corner of Whitehall. Excitement began to build, where were they all coming from? Most of them seemed to be commuters or tourists, and other than the four of us and our two new friends, we had no idea if anyone else was a follower of Jesus. It didn't seem to matter. In fact we had the distinct impression that God was drawing those who didn't even know him into this incredible prophetic event.

Finally it was 8:12 and Big Ben began to chime, joined not just by us, but by quite literally hundreds and hundreds of people ringing bells of all sorts. Hand bells, school bells, bicycle bells, door bells, even the official iPhone bell application. The noise was deafening and the presence of God was tangible. We sensed prophetically that the Government of our nation was no longer to be under the spiritual influence of Babylon, beholden to the institutions of finance and corporate greed, but was shifting and coming under the spiritual influence of the Kingdom of Heaven.

We became aware as we rang our bells that we were surrounded by camera crews and journalists, and by 'us' I mean the six of us that we knew were lovers of Jesus. For some reason they didn't seem interested in anyone else.

Three minutes seemed like quite a short time to be ringing bells, and as it came to an end a succession of film crews and print media journalists wanted to talk to us, take photos of us and ask us lots of questions. They seemed barely interested in talking to anyone else. For the next half hour or so, the six of us were interviewed and filmed ringing our bells by crews from China, Taiwan, South Korea, Germany, Russia, France, Brazil, the USA and the UK.

Fiona says:

It was an amazing place to be, and I only realised when I got home the awesome presence of God. The other stunning thing was actually being asked by all the reporters why we were here and being able to say, it is because God loves our country and is calling her back to Himself. How often do you get an unexpected opportunity like that!  I think to encourage people that God is doing incredible things in our nation is important, if they don’t know it already.

Helen says:

We, ie Giles, Fiona and myself, came up from Westminster underground station at 7.40am, carrying our bells, and passed along the side of Big Ben and The Palace of Westminster. We made our way to Parliament Square where we met our friend Janet carrying her tambourines. The Square filled up until there were about 400 people gathered there. Several hundred others stood on Westminster Bridge and the corner of Whitehall.

We were interviewed by a German reporter wanting to know whether we felt safe. She obviously had in mind the massacre at the Munich Olympics 40 years before. 'Oh yes!' we replied, 'God is protecting us and the games'.

At 8.12am Big Ben began to chime and we rang our bells for the designated three minutes. Others rang bicycle bells, hand bells, door bells, iPhone app bells. It was loud, exciting and significant!  Almost as soon as the bell ringing stopped we were surrounded by news report teams from Japan, China, S Korea, Russia, France, USA and, as we discovered later when we saw the news bulletin, ITN. All of them filmed us ringing our bells and many interviewed us asking, 'Why are you here?' ' praise_bus_torchWhat is the significance of the bell ringing?' and, 'Do you have a message for the nations and the athletes?'  It was a wonderful time of witnessing to God's purpose to call the nation back to worship and to transform the nation with His love. It seemed to us that we were the only ones interviewed as others had drifted back to work or wherever they were going. Eventually, we too left and made our way to Downing Street where we declared blessing and Divine Kingdom order over the Government.

We knew our assignment for the day was over. We crossed the road to a cafe for breakfast before heading home. At the underground station the three of us were drawn to a calypso style busker and gave him money  As we walked away we heard him singing, 'In My Father's house are many rooms..'. We walked back to him and in reply to our question he said, 'Yes, I am a Christian'. We blessed him and prayed for him and walked on with the strains of 'Alleluia!' echoing through the underground passageway.

God had one more surprise in store for us. On the motorway heading home we were stuck in a traffic jam caused, as we later discovered, by an accident. Alongside us was a large, double decker, open topped, blue, green and orange bus. On the back it said in bold letters, 'Jesus' love to the nations', and on the side, 'From the rising of the sun to it's going down, The Lord's name is to be praised!'  It was The More than Gold Bus that had gone ahead of the Olympic torch around the country.

I wound down my window and talked to the couple on the open top telling them what we had been doing, and rang my bell out the window. A man in a passing vehicle said, 'Unbelievable!' It would have been if it wasn't for God. How clever of God to use a Turner Prize Winner to initiate a day when the sound of Heaven was released and to call thousands of people, many non Christians, to make that sound. On this historic day we truly believe we had partnered with God to shift the spiritual atmosphere over the political and governmental centre of the UK and to bring it under the influence of the King and His Kingdom. Wow! God, Wow!

That evening I watched with rapt attention as the 27 tonne bell, the largest in Europe, was rung at The Olympic opening ceremony, followed by the singing of William Blake's  'Jerusalem'. God's Kingdom rule in this green and pleasant land? Without a doubt!
