Developed from an idea by St Philip's Church youth worker, Tony Cook, the show features fresh modern songs, composed by him.

"I was tired of singing the same Christmas carols every year.  I went to my son's school nativity and talking with other parents afterwards, we were saddened that the play we'd seen didn't tell the proper Christmas story."

Tony and his wife Jacqui, put their creative talents together and wrote some more Christmas songs from the viewpoint of the different characters in the real nativity; the angels, Mary and Joseph, the Kings, the shepherds and even the animals!...

They then collaborated with friend and writer, Pat Lunt, to create a child friendly star_poster_sscript and the new musical was performed in 2003 by the children at St Philip's Church to packed audiences.

Tony said:  "The show was a huge success and over the years we have talked about taking it to a wider audience by getting the church’s drama group to perform it.”

The drama group’s shows are well-loved in Odd Down, especially the annual pantomimes in January, and this year they have agreed to do the Christmas show instead.

Drama Group leader Tim Conroy said: “We wanted the show to be enjoyable for our regular audiences so Pat Lunt has cleverly updated the script to tell the fictional story of the villagers of Chewton Mackrell whilst retaining all the fabulous music.

"We think it will be fun for people of all ages across the local community and a great way to lead into the Christmas season.”

Every year the drama group support a local charity through their show, and this year they have chosen Open Christmas run by Bath Churches Together.
The charity provides a Christmas Day meal and entertainment for those who are usually on their own at Christmas.
Tim Conroy said “It’s really appropriate to support these amazing people who give up their Christmas to help others.  They express the true meaning of Christmas”.

The show takes place on Thursday-Saturday 8th to the 10th December at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

Tickets are on sale from St Philip and St James Church Office at £4 for adults and £2 concessions.
