Julian House Appeals To Keep More People From The Streets This Christmas..

Homelessness charity Julian House has launched its Christmas Appeal to raise £100,000.  This figure is one third of what it needs to keep going year on year according to fundraising manager Cecil Weir.  Last year offices and other empty buildings in Bath were snapped up by the charity - to keep people off the streets in the bitter snap.

So far this year the charity reports already turning people away, from its Manvers Street shelter due to increased numbers of homeless seeking shelter.
According to Bath Chronicle Cecils said: ""Homelessness is always a challenge but right now it would not be being melodramatic to say we have something of a perfect storm happening.

"We have increased demand, big reductions in government funding for homeless services and legislation for changes which are going to make things more difficult – particularly surrounding access to benefits.

"If we had a bigger shelter we would be filling it, as it is we are turning people away.

"Demand in the day shelter is indicative of the big bulge in demand.

"Everything is just tougher, the job market is tougher, accommodation is harder to find and Bath has particular problems because of the high prices."
