Focus Counselling offices We work from the Crypt of St. Michael's Church, Broad St, Bath, which is our head office. The history and background of Focus Counselling Members of the clergy working in the City of Bath in the late 1990's identified counselling as a priority need of the City's population. It was evident from research undertaken that the demand for counselling was not adequately addressed. Representatives of the City's Christian Churches met with the Management Board of the Bath YMCA. Together the Bath YMCA and representatives of the City's Churches established an essential need for affordable, professional assistance to aid the work of GP's, support groups and members of the clergy themselves. In October 1990 Focus Counselling was launched. The Bath YMCA supported the initiative by the provision of its own in-house counsellor to manage activities on-site at St. Michael's church, Broad Street. Since its launch, Focus Counselling has seen its reputation for providing professional and effectual support exceed all expectations. We now work with many agencies in the Bath area, including Churches, PADV, Victim Support, DHI, YMCA, Police, Social Services, Stonham Housing, GP's, New Highway, Bath Spa University, University of Bath, Royal United Hospital and the Community Safety Partnership. We encourage dialogue and face to face relationships with everyone we work with. We see at least 30 clients per week on a one to one basis. Five counsellors and two administrators are employed. There are also three volunteer placement students - one is nearing completion of his Diploma in Counselling, another is in the fourth year of her Doctoral training in Counselling Psychology and the third is nearing completion of her Diploma in Psychosynthesis Counselling.
