Focus Counselling is a Christian Charity Giving a Listening Ear
Focus Counselling, is a fantastic professional counselling agency with a distinctly Christian core - which has helped almost 5,000 people since its inception 11 years ago! The brainchild of Martin Lloyd Williams, Rector of St Michael's Church in Broad Street, this is Christian project is geographically and emotionally - at the heart of Bath.

With charity status since March 2005, Focus's director, Jan Douglas-Bate tells us the secret to its success. It abides by the code and ethics of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
How did you get involved Jan?
At the time I was working for the YMCA as a counsellor, and was then asked to set up the agency.
So Jan you began Focus Counselling - in practical terms! who does it benefit?
The whole community and beyond. It is for anyone in the city - not simply Christians. Anyone.
Does Focus work alone?
We work with every agency appropriate to Focus in Bath. That could include professional health organisations.
Do you have many 'success stories'?
Many! But obviously confidentiality is vital so I would not openly discuss details.
Is there a typical day at Focus?
No! I work from 8.30am until usually 2.30pm or sometimes 3.00pm on a Monday to Thursday, seeing clients and running the agency. We are a team of 13 people in all...It can be hard work but it is very rewarding.
Does Focus have any needs currently?
We are always fundraising! We would ask for prayers as we are about to expand into Staple Hill, Bristol and Twerton, Bath.
Can anyone volunteer to help?
No, because of confidentiality and the nature of our work.
If someone needs your help at Focus - what do they do?
The first appointment is with me and is called an intake session usually lasting about 20 mins to 30 mins. I explain how Focus works and then there would be a general discussion to see if we can help this person.
