The Rec House - Music Project for Twerton

Do you have a passion for making music, acting or dancing that you'd like to share in a Spirit-led, fun and relaxed atmosphere? If you are interested in enjoying the use of a modern recording studio and expressing yourself in the arts, this community project created by St Michael's, Twerton, is for you!

Describing itself as: 'a community arts venue, an agent of change and an emerging rechouselogo-150x150Christian community', the 'Rec House' is based right next door to St Michael's in Twerton and is the brainchild of its vicar, the Reverend Richard Wilson and his congregation.

Dedicated to the arts, Richard describes it as having a 'fantastically versatile 'Live Room' available for bands, dance sessions, theatre workshops, live music, art displays and so much more' on its official website.  The facility also has a well-equipped kitchen, garden and recording studio for people to 'offer themselves to others in order to help them grown, develop and to express themselves.' he writes.

Refurbished and made ready last January, it is clearly a good place to meet with other like-minded youngsters and Richard describes the nature of the Rec House as healing.

He writes: 'We want the Rec House to be an agent of transformation and change here in Twerton – an active and vibrant group of people that want to make a tangible impact on the community and on the lives of individuals.'

'Creativity, music, art, dance, drama are some of the most powerful tools that we humans have for reviewing our lives, changing the ways we see things and living differently.  Creativity joins us together and empowers us.  Creativity heals us. Creativity helps us express ourselves.  Creativity stretches us and challenges us.  Creativity makes us different.  That is why it matters and why it is so good that we have a community of creative people to work together for the sake of the locality.'

But with people rubbing shoulders, comes the expectation of a new type of djworkshopsChristian community being created.  'Its a new kind of Christian community – a group of people centred on Jesus who simply want to make a difference in the area and serve others by engaging in the creative arts.'

'Dependent on the Spirit and shaped by the life of Jesus this community aims to be outward looking, or missional in its focus. Recognising that life comes from a restored relationship with God and neighbour through faith in Jesus it is our hope that as this community shares life together it will displays a quality of life that attracts others, not just to the centre, but to explore the deepest meanings of life and community with us.'
